We have chosen to stay again in the 4 star Mount Murray Hotel & Country Club, Stanton. It is set in its own grounds of some 200 acres which includes a lake, golf course, driving range & putting green. It is located between the towns of Douglas and Castletown, ideal for enjoying the rich folklore and unique culture of the Isle of Man. The Island enjoys a mild climate and is an ideal short break destination. All of the hotel's 100 bedrooms are comfortably furnished. 1. Monday - Travel to the Isle of Man on an early afternoon crossing from Heysham. Continue to the hotel which is an ideal base to discover more of the attractive island.
2. Tuesday - Full day excursion with local guide. Visit Laxey for a view of "Lady Isabella" the world's largest working waterwheel and prehaps the best known image of the island. Afterwards time is available for an optional ride on the snaefel Mountain Railway, a spectacular climb to the Island's highest point at 2036ft. Continue to Ramsey, the main town to the north of the island.
3. Wednesday - Morning excursion with your guide across the scenic centre of the island to the sleepy town of Peel, said to be the best example of a typical Manx town, with its dramatic Castle. A tour of Moores Traditional Working Museum is included and visitors can witness curing of Manx Kippers with oak chips in the original factory chimneys. Free time in Douglas in the afternoon.
4. Thursday - Tour to the South of the Island and the ancient capital of Castletown and the wonderfully preserved Castle Rushed. Continue to the south west corner for an included visit to Cregneash Village Folk Museum. Nearby are the wonderful views around Calf Sound and the village of Port Erin, nestling in its scenic bay.
5. Friday - Short transfer to the ferry terminal for a morning crossing back to Heysham. Arrive back in Ryedale early evening.
