Weymouth - Swans, Boats, Trains & Castles

Our Weymouth tour includes a visit to the unique Abbotsbury Swannery, a boat cruise along the Jurassic coast, a steam train journey with the Swanage Steam Railway and a visit to Corfe Castle.

Excursions:

  1. Monday - We arrive at the hotel, settle in and have dinner.
  2. Tuesday - This morning we visit the unique Abbotsbury Swannery, the worlds only managed colony of nesting mute swans. Spread over 25 acres located on the dramatic Dorset coast, the Swannery was established by Benedictine Monks in 1040 and is now one of Dorset's most popular wildlife sites. We spend the afternoon in Dorchester, the vibrant county town of Dorset, discovering its connection to Thomas Hardy and exploring its shops and interesting museums which include the Dorset County Museum and the Keep Military Museum.
  3. Wednesday - Enjoy a free day in Weymouth, one of the UK's most beautiful seaside resorts with a fine Georgian seafront, esplanade and impressive golden sands. Take a stroll around the picturesque old harbour area and visit Brewer's Quay, which is full of arts, crafts and antique shops, visit the Sealife Centre or just sit and relax.
  4. Thursday - This morning we make our way to Poole Harbour to embark on a 1 hour cruise down the Jurassic coast to the Victorian pier and the beautiful traditional seaside resort of Swanage. We spend time here before embarking on a six mile scenic journey with the award winning Swanage Steam Railway through picturesque Purbeck to idyllic Corfe Castle Village. We spend time exploring the village and the Castle's model village (extra charge applies) before returning by train to Swanage and sailing back to Poole.
  5. Friday - We travel back to Ryedale arriving early evening.

Our hotel in Mullingar is an ideal base to visit Dublin's fantastic attractions, the tour includes Malahide Castle, Belvedere House and Gardens and of course, Irish Whisky !

  1. Monday - We travel to Holyhead for the cruise crossing to Dublin. Arrive at the hotel for dinner.
  2. Tuesday - This morning we visit Malahide Castle and Gardens where we enjoy a 45 minute guided tour. We then head for the pretty seaside village of Howth where we have free time to enjoy lunch before making our way to Howth harbour to embark on a 1 hour cruise of Dublin Bay.
  3. Wednesday - This morning we travel to neighbouring Belvedere House and Gardens, a magnificent 160 acre lakeside estate with a fully restored Georgian Villa, Victoria Walled Garden and 18th century parkland. In the afternoon we pay a visit to the Tullamore DEW Distillery where we enjoy a 50 minute guided tour with a tasting at the end !
  4. Thursday - We spend today at leisure in the vibrant city of Dublin where we can explore the many attractions it has to offer, including The Guinness Storehouse, St Patrick's and Christchurch cathedrals, The Book of Kells and Trinity College, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and Dublin Castle, among others.
  5. Friday - We leave the hotel for an early cruise crossing from Dublin to Holyhead. Instead of rushing breakfast at the hotel, breakfast will be served on board the Ferry on your return crossing. We arrive home to Ryedale early evening.

The traditional Victorian Royal Esplanade hotel is located in a superb seaside location, close to the promenade in the heart of the lively resort of Ryde, and just a short walk to the centre of town. The 69 airy bedrooms are well-decorated and offer a mix of styles with excellent bathrooms.   1. Monday - We drive to Portsmouth for ferry Crossing to Fishbourne. Dinner at the hotel.

  3. Wednesday - Today we board our coach for a circular tour of the Island, which boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline and stunning scenery, affording plenty of magnificent views. We start our day in the historic port town of Yarmouth which is home to the oldest architecture on the island, including a 16th century castle, and a grade 2 listed pier. We continue on to The Needles Park which has fabulous oceon views and is home to the iconic chairlift, which operates from the cliff-top at Alum Bay down to the beach below where we can see the Needles Rocks and coloured sands. We then continue our journey to St Catherine's Lighthouse - the Isle of Wight's most famous landmark.
  4. Thursday - This morning we enjoy a journey on the award winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Settling back on our leisurely 5 mile journey, we travel on two stretches of line, starting at Havenstreet Station from where we travel to Smallbrook Junction. From here, we enjoy a return trip to Havenstreet where we will embark on the next stage of our journey, to Wootton, before returning to Havenstreet. In the afternoon we spend time at leisure in Shanklin.
  5. Friday - We return home via Fishbourne to Portsmouth arriving in Ryedale early evening.

  1. Thursday - We arrive at our hotel for dinner.
  2. Friday - This morning we explore our base of Caernarfon, Gwynedd's county town and home to Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO World heritage site, before enjoying a scenic drive to Betws-y-Coed, North Wales most popular inland resort. We enjoy time at leisure before visiting the nearby Trefriw Woollen Mills (free entry) where traditional woollen products are made using machines that are over 50 years old powered by a vintage water turbine. We continue our journey through the Snowdonia National Park and return to Caernarfon via the village of Llanberis.
  3. Saturday - Today we enjoy a ride on the Welsh Highland Railway, the uk's longest heritage railway which runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon past the foot of Snowdon and the picture postcard village of Beddgelert, through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog. We then travel to the nearby unique village of Portmeirion exploring the lovely gardens, picturesque village and shops.
  4. Sunday - This morning we travel over the Menai Bridge to the Isle of Anglesey and visit one of the North Wales best kep secrets, the hidden world of Plas Cadnant Gardens. We enjoy exploring the stunning ngardens before we travel to nearby Beaumaris with its medieval castle, lovely beach and Victorian Pier. In the afternoon we relax with a 90 minute boat cruise to Puffin Island.
  5. Monday - After breakfast we return to Ryedale arriving back early evening.

  1. Monday - We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
  2. Tuesday - This morning we visit elegant Felbrigg Hall, full of opulence and homeliness. The house is beautifully furnished and features stained glass windows dating back to the 15th century, and has a stunning walled garden. In the afternoon, we spend free time in nearby Cromer, one of Norfolk's classic seaside towns, before visiting the Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary where we meet the gentle giant Shire horses.
  3. Wednesday - Today we spend time at leisure in Great Yarmouth. Some of the many attractions include the Time and Tide museum, where we can wander down a typical 1913 "Row" and see inside the homes of local fishermen, and the award winning Merrivale Model Village, Railway and Gardens, set over an acre of landscaped gardens with streams and waterfalls.
  4. Thursday - This morning we enjoy a 45 minute steam train journey on the Bure Valley Railway through the beautiful Norfolk Countryside. On arrival in Wroxham, we disembark and take a leisurely 15 minute stroll to Wroxham Bridge, from where we begin the next stage of our journey, a 90 minute circular cruise on the Norfolk Broads, arriving back at Wroxham Bridge at 1.00pm.
  5. Friday - After breakfast we take a scenic route back to Ryedale arriving early evening.
